Running Bras

Welcome to the Runners High "Bra" page.   As we build this site, we will try to include every brand and style that we carry.  Also, we will have some info that may help you find the correct bra for your activity.  On the left is a guide to fitting bras.  Take some time to read it through.  At Runners High, our staff of men and women are trained to help you get the correct fit.  If you desire one of our female staff to be on hand to answer questions, just give the shop a call and see what time they work.

A, B, C's and Double D's of sport Bras.

How to fit:

Band Size:  Determine your size.  Amazingly, 75% - 80% of woen wear the wrong size bra.  While no fitting system is foolproof, Moving Comfort believes the steps that follow are the best way to start:

Measure around your rib cage, just under your breasts.  The tape should be snug, but not tight.  For measurements 32" and smaller, add 5" and round up to the next even number. For measurements 33" and higher, add 3" and round up to the next even number.

Bust Size: Measure loosely around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape straight across your back.  Round up to the next whole number.

Cup Size:  Subtract your band measurment from your bust measurement.  The difference between the two determines the cup size. The chart below shows the difference in inches and below that is the cup size.  1' = A, 2" = B, etc.

Diff:  1"  /   2"   /  3"     / 4"    / 5"      / 6"

Cup  A    /  B    /  C       / D     / DD   /  E

Tip: When measuring, be sure to wear a lingerie bra that doesn't minimize or include extra padding to find the most accurate measurement.

Find your fit:

Use your measurement as a guide for selecting a variety of styles.  Each will feel and fit differently on your body.  Pay special attention to the following areas to find a great fit.

BAND:

-  It should fit slightly more snug than a lingerie bra.  Make sure you can comfortably take a deep breath with the bra fastened on the middle hook.

-Look for a wide band with strong stretch on the elastic to support and give stability.

-Be sure it doesn't ride up in the back.  If it does, the band may be too loose and/or the straps need to be adjusted.

CUPS:

-Adjust your breasts for proper fit.  They should be completely held within the cups without overflowing.

- Fabric should be smooth.  Wrinkles or buckers indicate the cup is too big.

- Underwire should sit on your ribcage below the breast tissue and follow your natural shape.

STRAPS:

-They shoould offer minimal stretch to reduce up and down breast movement.

- Wider staps will diperse the weight and feel more comfortable.

- They should not dig in or slide off your shoulders.  Adjustable staps offer a more custom fit.

 Compression vs. Encapsulation

A good sports bra should minimize breast movement through comperssion, encapsulation, or a combination of both.

Compression:

The bra presses the breasts against the chest wall to limit movement.

Encapsulation:

The bra is engineered to surround and support each breast individually as well as give shaping.

Combination:

The two methods are combined in one bra offering superior suppor, comfort, and shaping.

Impact Level

The more jostling and jumping, the more support you'll need. Select a sports bra that fits the activity and impact it's intended for. Moving Comfort proved a guide, but you are the best judge for the level of support tht your body needs. (Running is considered HIGH IMPACT)

Dress Reherarsal

Measuring is not an exact science.  Trying on is key!  Bra sizes fit differently depending on the brand,m style, and your body type - it might take several tries to find what works for you.  In the dressing room, put the bra to the test by mimicking the activity you plan on doing.  Try jumping up and down or running in place.  If youhave to ajust the bra during these activities, it might not be the right fit.

Making Your Sports Bra Last Longer

A sports bra should be replaced every 6 - 12 months.  If you can't read the care label anymore, it's time for an update.  While all of the Moving Comfort bras are machine washable, here are some tips to give your sports bra a longer life.

- Fasten the hooks before tossing them in the machine.

- Hang Dry.  If you douse the dryer, do not use fabric softeners or sheets.

- Hand wash
